The Pipes and Drums of the Fountain Trust is a competition bagpipe band from west central Indiana. Its members come from all over the Wabash Valley area, including Lafayette, Terre Haute, Crawfordsville, Rockville, Covington, and Danville, Illinois.
The Fountain Trust Company, a locally-owned bank with branches throughout western Indiana, sponsors the band. The Fountain Trust Company provides funding for uniforms and equipment, as well as a practice facility in Mellott. In return, the band provides advertisement for the bank by performing at several local gigs and concerts sponsored by the bank.
The Pipes and Drums of the Fountain Trust is a member of the Midwest Pipe Band Association and competes at the Grade V level. Several of the band’s members also compete as soloists.
Band competitions for the 2004 season include the Kentucky Scottish Weekend in Carrollton, Kentucky, the Springfield Highland Games in Springfield, Illinois, and the Ft. Wayne Highland Games in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The band finished second at Carrollton and third at Springfield in 2004. The pipe section came in first at both competitions. The band is looking forward to its final competition of the season at Ft. Wayne.
The band also performs at a wide variety of parades and concerts throughout the year. Since its beginning in 1999, the band has performed at the boys state basketball championship at the Conseco Fieldhouse, played with massed bands at the half-time show for the Bengal’s opening season football game in Cincinnati, Ohio, marched in the 500 Festival Parade in Indianapolis in May, 2003, and performed at the Bloomington Scottish Society Burns Supper in Bloomington, Indiana. The band has also become a regular performer at the Columbus, Indiana, Scottish Festival in September.
The band practices Sundays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at The Fountain Trust Company branch in Mellott, Indiana. The band is always looking for committed pipers and drummers. The band has a formal teaching program in place for both pipes and drums to teach beginners and more advanced students.
